In Alabama Rain, Heather McCutchen tells thetale of five sisters living in a mythical southern town where it has notrained in 40 years. The play examines the perils of a stagnant existence asthe sisters thirst for fertility and growth. When the order of their livessuddenly deteriorates, one sister flees to find the ocean, another drops deadof heartbreak and another begins to waste away from dehydration, the LaDeanfamily begins a magical quest for water (and yes, this IS a comedy). They struggle with a mysterious well that runs deep in their own backyard, which may or may not have water somewhere at the bottom. This well comes to represent their withered past but also holds the key to a future ripe with potential. Meet the director: DWAYNE DONALD
Dwayne has been a long time member of the HCCT family. His love affair withthe theatre began in high school with roles such as Charlie in Anne of GreenGables (HCCT), Frank Jr. in Cheaper By The Dozen (HCCT), and Huckabee in TheFantastiks (HCHS State Drama Competition). After a few years away, hesuccumbed to the acting bug again for a multiple roles as Fiddler, Gentleman#3 and Smoker #2 in A Christmas Carol (HCCT) followed by the first of hiscelebrated turns as Royce and Daddy Bud in Dearly Departed (HCCT – theoriginal production and both revivals!). He was repeatedly murdered as Mr.Boddy in Clue: The Musical (HCCT) and frightened us all as the very menacingMike Talman in Wait Until Dark (HCCT). More recently he portrayed Mr.Carrisford in A Little Princess (HCCT) and George Washington Piney in A BadYear For Tomatoes (HCCT). He directed his first play, Check, Please! forHCCT’s first Night of One Acts this past summer. Alabama Rain is his firstfull-length play as director and has been both labor of love and a dreamcome true.

Margaret Shippen SandersJOSEPHINE (Pheenie)Margaret lives in Hartwell, and describes herself as a full-time wife andmom, a part-time writer, and a no-time lawyer. She has directed many playsincluding Guys and Dolls (starring cast mates Barbara and Kelley), TheMiracle Worker (starring cast mate Amanda Tucker as Helen Keller) and WaitUntil Dark (starring director Dwayne Donald). Margaret also appeared in TheGin Game and Dearly Departed with Dwayne. Thanks to my husband Richard,and children Jane, Will and Mary Ellen for giving me the time and space todo theatre.
Marisa King LaurIE LAURIEMarisa Ann King lives in Hartwell and is a stay-at-home mom. She was in TheCactus Wildcat when she was 8 years old. This is her first official playas an adult. I am thrilled to be a part of this wonderful production! A bigthanks to my mom and my fiance for helping me with my kids. Thanks to myprecious babies for dealing with mommy being gone some at night. And THANKYOU Dwayne for giving me a chance! You are awesome!
